Shop Bought Sweet Treats

I'm only human, and sometimes I get a craving for something sweet and satisfying at a time when I can't really start baking (aka after an exam). So what's a girl to do when she wants something sweet and delicious and ASAP? Well rather than reaching for a bar of Dairy Milk, I look for some other alternatives.

Now some may call me weird, but I've always preferred dark chocolate. Even as a 10 year old I would get a dark chocolate Lindt bunny for Easter, whilst my sister got the milk one. And I've been sharing bars of dark chocolate with my parents at the cinema or after dinner for years and years, it's just my thing! Now I'm 19, it's considered socially acceptable, but as a 10 year old it was bizarre to reject the Cadburys for a bit of Lindt.

70% and above is my preference, but I have a real soft spot for the Green and Blacks 85% bar. The vanilla somehow really brings out a whole extra depth of flavour and it's just divine. Best of all, it's available pretty much everywhere around the UK/Australia/New Zealand. Dark chocolate fans- get your hands on some Green and Blacks!

And then when I became part of the healthy living community on Instagram I constantly saw posts cropping up from my Australian friends about Pana and Loving Earth raw chocolate. I was immensely jealous! However upon Google searching I discovered England has many raw chocolate brands of its own, Conscious Chocolate, Mulu, Ombar and the Raw Chocolate Company just to name a few.

Conscious Chocolate is probably my favourite out of all the UK brands I have tried, it has the softest and more truffle like texture ever. It's honestly nicer than dark chocolate and that's saying something. When I first bought them a year ago I got all the flavours and I was in heaven! The Orange one is probably my favourite, it tastes like Terry's Chocolate Orange and it's amazing! The Mint one is another clear favourite, it's like eating some After Eights!

Raw Chocolate is fabulous because it contains far higher concentrations of the good stuff in the cacao, plus it's not packed full of refined sugars either. It's chocolate that's seriously good for you! One word of warning- don't eat it too late at night, the raw cacao tends to make me wide awake!

Now I mentioned above that for the last 18 months I have had a dying case of envy over Pana Chocolate. Well, my week  year life was made when the lovely people at Pana emailed me with the exciting news that they were bringing their chocolate out of Australia and around the world! Already you can buy it in New Zealand, Hong Kong, France and Germany to name a few, and now they are launching in England. What a dream! I had the amazing opportunity to try some Pana and goodness is it delicious. I especially loved the Cinnamon flavour, it was so spicy and fragrant and the texture was A+++. I cannot wait to stock up on the Fig and Wild Orange flavour when it is available to buy in England too!

So other than chocolate, what else fits the bill for a fuss free sweet treat? My fave- medjool dates or dried figs. There's a whole world of dipping options from tahini to peanut butter to almond butter, or you could even go down the stuffing route. The world is truly your oyster when it comes to combinations and it is mega satisfying. Not only that, it's quick and easy and very nutritious.

Where do I even start with the health benefits of dates?

Well, they're high in fibre which aids the movement of food through your digestive system and helps to reduce bad cholesterol. They're also high in iron for healthy blood and contain potassium, an important electrolyte for those who are very active. They're also high in Vitamin A, K, Zinc, Copper, Niacin and lots of B vitamins, so they're so much better than processed and artificial sweet treats!

    You should really try this out; blend up some fresh or medjool dates with a splash of unsweetend almond milk until it reaches a caramel-like texture. It's amazing to dip in bananas, use as an oatmeal topping or just straight out the jar!

    what do you think of dried fruits? i eat them sometimes,what´s your favorite? :)

    I've been thinking about ordering some good chocolate for a century now... But I'm still wondering about wich brand I should order. Wich of all the chocolate brands do you recomend me the most? Pana and Conscious seems to be very nice, wich of those are the best according to you?

    1. Pana is probably my favourite out of the two! The Orange, Mint, Coconut + Goji and Cinnamon flavours are out of this world!
