Easy Homemade Hummus

By Wednesday, February 05, 2014 , , , ,

Rather than buying hummus, why not make it yourself? It's so much better for the environment to avoid the packaging that comes with shop bought hummus, plus this way you can make it exactly the way you like it!

You will need:

1 can chickpeas
1/2 cup of the water from the chickpea can
1 large clove of garlic
Juice of 1/2 a lemon
2 tbsps olive oil
3 tbsps tahini
A pinch of salt

Simply combine all of the above in a food processor until smooth, then transfer into a pot and store in the fridge for up to 1 week. You can add paprika, cumin, roasted red peppers or other flavourings of your choice too

  5. Just made a big batch of this and it tastes so fresh and so much better than hummus we usually get from the supermarket. My parents and I are addicted. Thank you so much for this recipe!

    1. Definitely not! The tahini is essential for the flavour and texture!

  7. You previously said that Tahini is essential for the flavour and the texture of the hummus. However, it is impossible to find where I live; do you think I could replace it with another ingredient that is similar to Tahini and easier to find?

    1. I really don't think so! Tahini really is an essential part of hummus! Maybe make your own from sesame seeds?
