Raw Vegan Cacao Banana Pops

By Friday, September 27, 2013 , , , , , ,

These make the perfect study snacks, summer desserts or fun treats for kids. They're easy to make, delicious and completely nourishing and good for you too.

Makes 3 banana pops:

1 medium banana
1 tbsp Coconut oil
1 tbsp Cacao powder
1 tsp Mesquite powder (Or another sweetener if you wish)
3 small wooden cocktail sticks
Various things to roll them in, eg: Nuts, seeds, goji berries, coconut etc

Cut your banana into chunks and push the sticks through the bottom of them, but not the whole way through.  Freeze them for a couple of hours, overnight or until completely solid. When this is done, put the cacao powder and the mesquite powder in a small glass bowl and combine well with a spoon, ensuring that there are no lumps. Put the glass bowl inside a larger bowl or saucepan full of boiling water, but be careful not to get any water into the cacao mixture. Add the coconut oil and allow it to melt, stirring continuously until it is all mixed in well. Remove your bananas from the freezer and place on a piece of greaseproof paper, drizzling each piece of banana in raw chocolate, and quickly rolling it in the toppings before the chocolate sets. Continue for all the pieces of banana, and devour!

  1. If I wanted to make these ahead of time to take to work or on a picnic or something how could I store them best? Fridge of freezer? :) And thanks for the snack idea!

    1. Definitely freezer, I wouldn't recommend letting these defrost fully because the banana would go mushy, and the raw chocolate would be soft at room temperature. And you're welcome!

  2. Made these today, used cacao nibs and coconut to make a scary face and the raw chocolate to make a witches hat and they make a perfect halloween treat :P Only thing I didn't have was any mesquit powder so I just ommitted but I like bitter chocolate so I think they will taste fine, an you buy mesquite powder in the uk at all?

    1. I'm so glad to hear that! I got my mesquite powder from a health food website, I'm sure you could find it online too

  3. just wondering that is there any appropriate replacement of the coconut oil? i mean, i don't usually prepare coconut oil in the freezer.

    1. Cacao butter is the only other thing you can make raw chocolate from, so that's the only alternative :)
