Cacao Orange Bliss Balls

By Friday, July 26, 2013 , , , , ,

These rich and flavoursome balls make the perfect snack to take you through an afternoon slump. They're easy to make, store for ages and taste delicious too. As a child, my favourite chocolate bars and biscuits were always chocolate orange. I adored Terry's Chocolate Oranges and Jaffa Cakes, and I'd choose them every Easter, so this here relives my love of the combination, without the nasty sugar slump after indulging in one.  These are raw, vegan and gluten free, plus packed with protein and healthy fats so they're incredibly good for you, as well as being incredibly good!

Makes 12 balls

You will need:

1 cup (150g) raw almonds
1/2 cup (90g) medjool dates
1/2 cup (60g) cacao nibs
1/2 cup (50g) gluten free oats
1/4 cup (20g) pea protein powder (or any other vegan protein powder, or you can substitute more oats if you like)
3 tbsp water
1 tsp orange extract

Simply combine all the above in a food processor until it makes a chunky, doughy texture, then refrigerate for an hour or so, until the dough firms up. Then just roll into 12 even balls, and devour! I store mine in the freezer, and just remove one in the morning of the day I want to eat one, that way they stay fresh, but if you want to put them in the fridge for a week or two, that's fine too!
